Amanda
Hodges, Consul General & Trade Commissioner - Atlanta, GA
Ms Hodges was appointed to the position of Consul-General and Trade Commissioner,
Atlanta in January 2005. Her responsibilities include facilitating Australian trade across the
seven states in the Southeast of the US, and providing Consular services to the 12,000
Australians living and traveling through the region.
Prior to locating to Atlanta, Amanda completed a four year posting in Milan, Italy where in
her final year she was Acting Senior Trade Commissioner and Consul-General, overseeing
the Mediterranean region of Italy, Greece, Turkey, Malta, Cyprus and Israel.
Amanda was born in New South Wales, Australia, and grew up in Brisbane,
Queensland, where she graduated with a Bachelor of International Business Relations and Korean
Language from Griffith University, Brisbane.
She was awarded a scholarship to attend Korea University, Seoul to undertake further
business studies and Korean language, where she earned a Graduate Diploma in Korean.
Amanda joined Austrade in November 1997, following experience in the private sector with
Sydney based consulting firm Instate Pty Ltd and its sister company Australian Prestige
Wines Pty Ltd, undertaking market research and market entry strategies for its Asian market
focused companies in the agribusiness sector. With Australian Prestige Wines, she
successfully expanded the company’s wine export sales to the Korean market.
Her various roles at Austrade have included working with the organization's Chief
Economist and for the Regional Director of Australia and a six month assignment as Trade
Commissioner in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1999.
Amanda is an enthusiastic snow skier and hiker and enjoys wine appreciation and ethnic
cuisine.
